Feed the LOVE ! donation class
Feed the LOVE
What do you love to do that brings you joy?
Who will you share it with?
Where is that place that feeds your heart & soul? You know that place that allows you to let out a big, falling sigh of an exhale to be in the moment of wearing your own skin…
Well, for me it is in the kitchen, the pottery studio and on the yoga mat. I nourish myself with a joy of creative cooking, a passion for getting dirty with clay and a commitment to connecting to the real me on the mat. I have been thinking on how my daily life moves between these spheres and how they are interconnected. This is how I created Heartful Yoga. I keep thinking how my business of Heartful Yoga could make an impact in the Hudson Valley community and I came up with joining forces with the Food Bank of Hudson Valley.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment has soared and food insecurity is on the rise. Before the pandemic, more than 35 million Americans, including over 10 million children, faced food insecurity. We know that number has significantly increased due to the pandemic.
In the spirit of service (Seva), I am partnering with the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley to offer a donation-based class on Feb 14, 2021, on Zoom 9:30-10:45 a.m. JOIN ME to help Feed the LOVE ! Sharing my love this Valentine’s Day comes from this important connection of the different areas of my life that sustain and nourish me with joy, happiness and realism. My love for healthy food, creative cooking, making handmade pottery, sprinkled with yoga in what I do on and off the mat keeps me in check …. And I believe can actually help the community. So I thought, let me use this power of yoga to help Feed the LOVE locally!
Please join me for a donation-based yoga class this Valentine’s Day to help the Food Bank of Hudson Valley. All proceeds will go directly to the food bank !!
“Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service” or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In ancient India, Seva was believed to help one’s spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community. This is the art of giving with no need to receive something in return, where the act itself is a gift to everyone involved. Seva is the art of blessed action.
Ram Dass explains this beautifully: “Helping out is not some special skill. It is not the domain of rare individuals. It is not confined to a single part of our lives. We simply heed the call of that natural impulse within and follow it where it leads us.”
Despite our seemingly unlimited capacity to connect, it's very easy to feel limited or unconnected in a world of dynamic change. Asking questions like "Can I really make a difference?" or "How am I supposed to help?" only serves to delay or avoid action. With Seva, the only answer you need is YES. So say “yes” to feed your practice to feed the love to others.
Feeding the love gives financial support to this local food bank. Hudson Valley Food Bank creates access points within communities throughout the Hudson Valley and provides nutritious food to those who need it. In line with this excellent work, engaging yogis to take action while being on and off the mat is a part of my commitment to making healthy Heartful Yoga accessible, simple, creative, and fun.

Here is a recipe that helps Feed the LOVE in my home as cozy wintery soup:
(hope you enjoy it !)
Cauliflower Hazelnut Soup with Fried Sage
½ chopped hazelnuts plus 1-2 tbs for topping
½ c. EVO (extra virgin olive oil ) or coconut oil
1 leek –white and light green parts chopped
( hold top green part can be used fried with the sage topping )
1 2 ½-3 lb cauliflower head, roughly chopped
2 tsp sea salt or to taste
2-4 cloves of garlic minced
fresh ground black pepper
8 c veggie broth
½- 1 c white wine for leek/cauliflower reduction
juice of ½ to 1 lemon
topping
butter or smart balance
8- sage leaves
1 c. sliced shitake mushrooms - and/or cremini
leek top dark greens /chopped
any stalk of the cauliflower head or extra bits chopped
350 degrees – preheated oven for toasting the hazelnuts on a cookie sheet until slightly toasted about 15 mins. Be careful NOT to burn them. Allow to cool slightly and then roll the nuts between your hands and paper towel to release the skins - then discard the skins / set nuts aside while preparing soup
Heat olive oil in heavy bottomed pan over medium heat. Add leeks, sauté couple of mins then add chopped cauliflower, garlic salt and pepper. Cook about 10 mins – til light brown and reduce with white wine. Stirring occasionally .
Add veggie broth and bring to a boil. Reduce , simmer and cover about 20 mins – add hazelnuts and lemon juice . Either carefully transfer soup to a blender or use the best invention – the hand blender to puree the soup adjusting the taste with salt & pepper and any other seasoning you like ….
The topping :
Is a combination of the pan fried mushrooms, leek tops and sage leaves in either olive oil with a dash of butter or no butter at all …. !
Serve in your favorite bowl (if you want to look or commission me for my pottery #heartfulpottery and take your time to enjoy ! )
Feed the LOVE from within and share it out …
Happy Valentine’s Day !
